TOWN OF WAKAW
BYLAW #5/96

A Bylaw of the Town of Wakaw respecting smoking in certain locations.

          WHEREAS it is deemed desirable for the health and welfare of the inhabitants of the Town of Wakaw to prohibit or regulate smoking in buildings and vehicles owned or operated by the Town;

          NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF WAKAW IN OPEN MEETING ASSEMBLED ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:

1.          In this Bylaw, the expression:

          a)          "Town" means the Town of Wakaw;

          b)          "Town Building" means any building owned or operated by the Town;

       c)          "Town Vehicle" means any motor vehicle either owned by the Town or with respect to which the Town is the lessee;

       d)          "Smoke" or "Smoking" means and includes a carrying of a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe, or any other lighted smoking equipment.

2.          No person shall smoke in a Town Building.

3.          No person shall smoke in a Town Vehicle.

4.          The Town Administrator is hereby authorized to post in Town Buildings and Town Vehicles such signs as he/she deems appropriate and only as a courtesy to inform members of the public of any provisions of this Bylaw.

5.          Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this Bylaw is guilty of an offense and liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than $35.00 and not exceeding $2,000.00.

6.          This Bylaw shall come into force and take effect on July 1, 1996.
